This tour offers a complete tea experience that is also popular with tourists on sites like TripAdvisor. We will tour a plantation along Kizugawa river known for cultivating high-quality tea leaves, where we will harvest tea by hand. After that, we will visit a tea factory and savor the exceptional taste of high-quality green tea that is made using techniques unique to this area. This tour allows you to experience something so rare that it eludes even most native Japanese people.
Hamacha Garden ( Tea Garden along Kizugawa River)
Joyo City is one of the few regions nationwide that cultivate Tencha—tea leaves that are ground into fine powder to produce matcha. At the National Tea Fair where the quality of different matcha is judged, Joyo City has twice beaten other tea-producing regions to the top prize (in 2015 and 2017). Magouemon owns many tea fields and tea factories in this prime region that has the perfect conditions for tea cultivation.

Tencha grown near the dried riverbed of Kizugawa river is known as “Hama-cha,” a premium variant that is highly prized by tea wholesalers. We will tour the tea plantations and harvest tea leaves by hand. Cancelled in case of rain.
Tea Processing factory.
We will savor the taste of high-quality green tea made by the “Honzu method,” a tea processing technique unique to this region. The matcha’s bright green color, elegant aroma, and profound depth of flavor attest to the unmatched quality of the tea.
Tencha Tea Leaves.
We will then visit one of the very few Tencha factories in Japan to witness how freshly picked tea leaves are processed to make matcha powder.
Matcha Experience.
When matcha is served during the tea ceremony, there will be a short talk on Magouemon’s method of preparing matcha. You will also get to try making matcha yourself.
